The last paragraph of your argument is correct, which, I for one, have just about had enough with and am very very close to hanging up my EVE charactes. CCP has now created a game where vetrans, with their many many hours of skill training, grinding, planning and hard work have little to no advantage over n00bs coming into the game. What is the point in investing your time into the game then? Some will immediately argue "enjoyment". Yes I enjoy the game, but like many people who enjoy the game, I enjoy the empire building aspects if EVE, which is largely what EVE is about. Its one of the core tennents, build an empire. Well there really isnt much point in building an Empire when your Empire, despite your hours of work and time invested is less than or equal to someone who just started.
Are you telling me, that if you have played for 4-5 years you wouldnt expect to have an advantage over a newer player? If the answer is that you wouldnt expect to have an advantage, I would call bullsh*t immediately.
Let's just do an approximate cost analysis of this, and not even analyze the time invested. If I've played for 4 years, and with 2 accounts (which is fairly average for a vetran player), that would be (($14.95 X2) X12)X4, which comes out to be $1435.20. At a minimum, I've invested $1435.20 into CCP over the last 4 years, and that shouldnt, at the very minimum, entitle me to some sort of advantage over a newer player who hasnt invested any time in or money? Im sorry, I just dont buy your argument, I think its short sighted and rediculous.
When I first started playing, there were many characters that had well over a year of an advantage on me. I sucked it up, because the difference between a newer player and a vet was more considerable in "those days". I accepted as part of the game, and that one day, I would be able to challenge them when I invested the time and effort. So therefore, I have been in your shoes, I have been the underdog, and I accepted it as I felt it was "fair"
At this point, we're reaching that point where it is no longer fair, and I believe your going to see more vetran players starting to get a little fed up with it, and start to consider whether they need to keep playing anymore.
I barely know where to start with this one...
You talk about "empire building" - what does this have to do with how easy/not easy it is for a noob to fly a T3 ship? Empire building has next to nothing to do with what ships you fly, it has everything to do with your inter-personal skills and knowledge of the game. If you don't have a huge advantage over a noob in this area, then you're doing something wrong. Even if a noob buys a 100mil SP character, he doesn't automatically get all that chars in-game contacts.
I run a corp that is largely noobs (< 6 months old), and none of them are swimming in ISK. I'm a little over a year old, and I generally only run a wallet of around 500-750mil, so it would appear to me that the ISK barrier for T3 is very much an issue for 99% of people.
In addition, all your "hard work" skill training really boils down to "click this button to train this skill". This isn't the classic definition of hard work. The "hard work", such as it is, comes from building relationships in-game, learning how things work, and grinding ISK. These are all areas that vets have a huge advantage over noobs.
Honestly, if you feel your enjoyment of the game is harmed b/c some random noob only took 1-2 months to get into a ship that is poorly trained and fitted, then you definately should move on to something else. Or you can stick with it - you said you accepted the fact that you were at a disadvantage when you first started and you sucked it up, so it'll be even easier for you to do it now when you actually have the advantage.
